2006 - Camp Daniel Boone

Friday, July 14 - David, Michael, Louis, Seth, Alex, and Sam joined Mr. Calish and Mr. Couchman on the 3:00 AM departure drive to Lake Ocoee in Tennessee. Mr. Pastor picked up Justin and Mr. Sacharoff at the Atlanta airport and drove to Lake Ocoee, TN.

Saturday, July 15 - Troop 641 was picked up by Ace Funyaks, Inc. and bussed over to the Ocoee River for Kayaking and Funyaking training. Funyaks are inflatable boat that are wider and longer than kayaks. Jeff, Emily, JJ and Chris were all great instructors that did a fantastic job teach us the necessary skills to safe and effective on the water, through the rapids and we all were glad we had the experience. We ended the day by driving over to Camp Daniel Boone, dropped off the trailer and headed over to Waynesville, NC for dinner. We enjoyed a tasty meal at Huddle House, returned to camp and zonked out for the night.

Sunday, July 16 - We awoke, ate breakfast and prepared for an invigorating hike up Cold Mountain. We hiked up the mountain trail for about 2 hours, rested and then headed back down to camp. The hike down was probably only 1 hour in duration. After returning to our camp site, Tuscaroura, we rested, ate, then officially checked in, had our Troop group photo taken. We then took the royal tour of the entire facility.

Louis, Seth and Michael fishing

Sam on his way from fishing (got a "nibble") back to our campsite.

All the boys lined up for the Sunday evening flag ceremony.

Folding the Flag for the night

Good Morning Campers!!! Louis, Michael, David and Justin (YES, I told Michael his Mom was concerned he wasn't wearing a sweat shirt...Neither were Mr. Calish, Mr. Couchman, or Mr. Pastor---Michael is surviving just fine).

Good Morning Mr. Calish and Alex C (hey---how did David and Justin get in this shot?)

Sam's a little shy this morning.

Seth, thank you for finally awaking and joing the rest of us!!!

And you thought morning flag ceremonies are boring?? No Way!!!

This time I asked them to make "pig" faces. How'd they do?

If you look very carefully...way across the lake...you can see Mr. Calish. See him??

Waterfront/swimming area way across the lake. See it??

This photo makes it easier to see the "far side".

Alex anxiously awaits the start of the Horsemanship merit badge class.

Grooming, hands on care and various horse breeds are but a few of the things Alex was able to learn.

Alex C and Sam learn fire building methods & techniques in Camping merit badge class

Sam looks up for a quick Photo Op during Camping MB class.

Alex, Michael, Seth and Louis attending Indian Lore MB class (Alex is way way left). I could not (still can't) believe Louis and Seth were wearing their sweatshirts at 2:00 in the afternoon. I was sweating double just looking at them.

Another shot of the indian Lore MB class. There's Alex.

Michael and Justin study attentively in their Citizenship in the Nation class (one of their three Trail To Eagle courses).

And they steal a quick momentary distraction just for the "folks back home"!!

Alex in his Archery class.

Free time - I'm great at making Mom "climb the wall", I wonder if I can do it???

OK, I'll get started.

Hey, I'm doing it!!! Look Mom!!

I did it!! All the way to the top! Good job Alex!!

Tuscarora - Our Home Away from Home!!

Isn't sunrise here beautiful??

Dick found this "butterfly cluster" during one of his walks around the camp.

Michael, Alex and Justin at the campsite.
